Either Sling hangs or it exits entirely to the Fire Home page. That said, we use a Roku 3 in the living room, and although we have less issues with the Roku the other day Sling was hanging on that too. I kept having to use the 'back' button to open the show again and have it resume.
02/07/2020 Yesterday I came home and none of my Fire devices (stick, tv and kids tablet) would work. They all read connected with problems. I found nothing online that helped. I restarted everything, took the stick back to factory defaults, did the same with the router and re-setup, and I downgraded the firmware on the Nighthawk one at a time. 10/06/2020 24/02/2015
